How does Bio-Ionic Natural Ion hair therapy treatment work? Bio Ionic Ion Hair Treatment is a chemical process that permanently straightens or "repairs" curly hair.

What type of hair can be Bio Ionically treated? Thermal reconditioning can be done on all hair types depending on the condition, YOUR HAIR IS UNIQUE! You should consult a hair stylist prior to the treatment to view your hair and discuss whether you are a good candidate. Highlighted hair can be treated, but the process is more involved. The bleached strands are woven out and treated differently. Protection and fillers are applied to reduce damaged and a milder solution is used on bleached hair.

Are Bio Ionic products for all hair types, or only for people who have curly hair but want to wear it straight? Bio Ionic products are for all hair types, with the exception of the Ion- Retexturising System. The Ion- Retexturising System is a permanent straightening process designed for people with curly, frizzy or unruly hair who want to wear their hair permanently.

Can I straighten my hair if it has color or highlights or seems a little damaged? Yes. A technician will determine the condition of your hair by doing a test on the most damaged area. At that time you and the stylist will look at the choices you have and make a decision about the product. What is important is that your hair maintains its integrity so that the best results can be achieved. Please do not colour for two weeks before and two weeks after. Please note that split ends will be visible for two weeks after and will need to be trimmed.

How long does the process take? Three to six hours, contingent upon length and condition ( colour, highlights, etc.) of the hair.

How much does Thermal Reconditioning cost? This depends on the length and texture of hair. The determining factors are how much hair you have, your hair length, condition of your hair and what chemical treatments have been used in the past. This is a labour intensive job and must be done by a qualified technician and not a shamphooist . On average a salon will charge between R1500 - R5500. Quotes cannot be made over the phone and a quote will be given during a consultation only.

How long does the treatment last? Treated hair is straight forever! New growth is your natural texture. We touch up re-growth every 6 months to 18 months, as we would a tint, depending on tightness of curl. This usually costs 30 to 40% less.

Will I still need to blow-dry or style after the treatments? Yes, but drying time will be dramatically reduced. It really depends on the level of finish desired. Your hair will be straight and it will feel soft and silky with a lot of shine. Long term care of treated hair?
Your hair is now chemically treated. The process cannot be guaranteed if you are not using professional products. Even though the illusion is that your hair is in much better condition you must use a recommended professional Shampoo & Conditioner to maintain the illusion. Please treat your hair regularly.

Your appointment

Please allow a half day for your first visit. It is imperative to have a consultation with the stylist prior to having this process. It can't be stressed enough how important it is for clients to tell the truth. Clients can be embarrassed to admit that they use supermarket products or other styling products not stocked by the salon. However for this system to work best, it is imperative for the technician to know all the products that is used in the hair.

If you booked your appointment without seeing a Bio Ionic Technician first, then allow for slightly more time. Please wear, or bring along, an old top, as quite a lot of moisture is used during the process.

There are a number of thermal-reconditioning systems in the market place, but none of them can claim the superior results of the patented Bio Ionic System, which was developed by a Japanese bio-molecular scientist.

The Process

The process involves a number of steps;
1. Your hair will be Deep Cleansed Shampooed to remove any product residues
2. A formula will then be applied to your hair. Depending on the condition and porosity of your hair, this formula will be left on your hair for between 5 to 30 minutes
3. When your hair has taken up the formula, the excess will be rinsed off.
4. The Bio Ionic Technician will then dry your hair with a Bio Ionic Dryer.
5. Bio Ionic Irons and ironing then Straightens, Revitalizes and Reconditions your hair.

This is a time consuming but essential step in creating the new you. It will take several hours, depending on the length of your hair.
1. When you and your Bio Ionic Technician are satisfied with the results, a Bio Ionic Neutralizer will be applied and left on for between 5 to 10 minutes
2. Your hair will be rinsed to remove the Neutralizer and then conditioned.
3. Finally the Bio Ionic Technician will dry your hair with the Ionic Hair Dryer.

AFTER CARE - THE FIRST 72 HOURS

1. This treatment helps your hair to keep absorbing oxygen and rejuvenating for up to 72 hours after the treatment is completed.
2. During this time do not tie your hair up or tuck it behind your ears in case it takes on the shape of those curves.
3. It is most important that you do not wash or wet your hair during the 72hours.
4. When you get up in the morning, run a brush through your hair. If there are any kinks, straighten them with your Hair Dryer.
5. Please try and use a satin pillowcase or a silky scarf on your pillowcase for the first 3 nights after having the treatment.
6. Please do relax and enjoy your new rejuvenated and straight hair for the first 3 days, avoiding any exercise that may cause perspiration.

After the first 3 days (72Hours) you may wash and dry your hair as normal. If you are in any way concerned, please call your Bio Ionic Technician immediately.
