On June 6, 2006 at a prestigious ceremony in Barcelona, Spain, the B.E.S.T. (Business Education for Salons Today) Foundation, producer of the Global Salon Business Forum & Awards, announced Tanaz Hair Body & Nails as the South African winner of the 2006 Global Salon Business Awards’ Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for Client Philosophy/Marketing & Promotion. Competing with more than 400 businesses worldwide in five different categories, Tanaz distinguished itself as an entrepreneurial leader in an extremely demanding and competitive international industry. Paula Kent Meehan, Founder of Redken Laboratories and the not-for-profit B.E.S.T. Foundation, explained, “The professional salon industry generates over $150 billion dollars per year in annual sales. In this highly competitive environment, there is no greater challenge than to run and operate a rapidly growing business. The amount of work and attention to detail it takes to create a successful salon can only be mastered by those with a clear vision and the will and perseverance to succeed.” |
This coveted award, which was presented to Shelene Shaer and Richard Wories, owners of Tanaz Hair Body & Nails, recognises the philosophy, mission and vision of the salon as it relates to serving its customers. The award considers business strategies including the salon’s as well as the active role the salon plays in community-based projec Kristin Firrell, executive director, elaborated, “Our goal is to recognise and honour the top achievers in the industry, and that is exactly what Tanaz is: a business that consistently promotes and markets itself using innovative imagery and unparalleled attention to detail, while developing a recognisable brand. As the winner of the Entrepreneurial Excellence Award for Client Philosophy/Marketing & Promotion, Tanaz is a model for other salons to follow.” Over 1700 salons and spas worldwide were nominated for entry in the 2006 Global Salon Business Awards®. The renowned judging panel included academics, leading business experts, international trade media and industry leaders. They gathered at the University of California, Los Angeles campus in March to make their selections from the 400 competing entries submitted from 21 countries throughout the world. Awards were presented when competitors met in Barcelona in June for the four-day global business forum and awards ceremony. The event offered advanced education forums, networking opportunities, panels and celebratory events. The B.E.S.T. Foundation’s vision is for all salon owners to be regarded as successful business leaders, by offering financially viable career opportunities and contributing to the socio-economic prosperity of their community. Tanaz is taking this vision to heart and has recently branched out by opening a salon at the Cape Quarters, partnered by Shelene Shaer, Richard Wories and Theo Deneys.
